Service rooted in Aram
Agastheeswarar Arapani Arakattalai is a registered charitable trust based in Nedungundram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, working to support public-benefit initiatives in heritage, environment, water, knowledge and community welfare. At its present stage, the Trust primarily supports and collaborates with institutions and initiatives aligned with its charitable objects, while progressively developing projects of its own.
Its guiding idea is that sustainable living depends on coexistence—among people, the natural world, cultural memory and the systems that sustain life.

OUR APPROACH
Panchabootham, circularity and systems thinking
The Trust approaches sustainability through the interconnectedness of people, nature, heritage and knowledge. The traditional Panchabootham perspective—Earth, Water, Fire/Energy, Air and Space—offers a philosophical lens for understanding interdependence, balance and continuous interaction in nature.
Contemporary Earth-system thinking likewise studies interactions among climate, water, land, soil, biodiversity, material cycles and human activity. We use this correspondence as a framework for inquiry—not as a claim that traditional philosophy and modern science are identical.
For us, this translates into practical attention to water, ecological restoration, heritage, sustainable resource use and responsible community participation.

LEADERSHIP
G. B. Ponmanivannan
President
A technology, innovation and sustainability professional with over 36 years of experience spanning research, engineering, technology strategy and corporate leadership. His work has included technology foresight, innovation and intellectual property, sustainability, industry–academia collaboration and corporate social responsibility.
In corporate CSR leadership, he led or supported programmes in watershed development, remote healthcare and cataract surgery, assistive technologies for persons with disabilities, skill development and institutional partnerships. This experience provides the Trust with practical strength in structuring, collaborating on and monitoring social and environmental initiatives.
He has a longstanding interest in planetary sustainability, ecological circularity and the Panchabootham perspective of interconnected natural systems, and has presented sustainability and technology themes through professional and public forums.

Arulmigu Tripurasundari Sametha Agastheeswarar Temple, Nedungundram
The ongoing heritage initiative supports the renewal of this living place of worship and community identity. The wider programme includes the Rajagopuram, sannidhis, mandapam and traditional architectural elements, together with supporting works around the temple precinct.
A particularly meaningful aspect is the integration of rainwater management with the temple landscape, connecting heritage conservation with traditional water stewardship.

PROPOSED PROJECT • SEEKING PARTNERS
Temple Tank Rejuvenation — Panchetty
The Trust is seeking partners for the integrated rejuvenation of the historic temple tank associated with Shri Ananthavalli Samedha Agatheeswarar Temple, Panchetty, Tiruvallur District.
The initiative sees the traditional temple tank as an interconnected heritage and ecological system—receiving rainwater, supporting groundwater recharge, sustaining the temple environment and serving the surrounding community.
The proposed approach brings together heritage-sensitive restoration, water conservation, filtered rainwater capture, groundwater recharge, restoration of the Neerazhi Mandapam and traditional stone elements, native landscaping, safety and community stewardship.

Community welfare
Support includes third-party initiatives for cow care, livelihood assistance to socially excluded families, food and clothing for elderly people in shelters, and educational assistance for visually impaired/orphan students.

OUR APPROACH
Human Life and the Living Earth
Human life does not exist apart from nature. The systems that sustain air, water, soil, energy, biodiversity and climate also sustain food, livelihoods, settlements, culture, health and community resilience.
One Interconnected System
Human life is inseparable from the Earth system that sustains it. Space, air, energy, water, land and all living systems continuously interact through natural cycles and feedbacks. These systems provide the foundations for food, water, health, livelihoods, settlements, biodiversity and human society. Nature has an inherent capacity to regenerate and restore balance; however, when the extraction and consumption of resources consistently exceed that regenerative capacity, ecological imbalance and systemic risks can increase.
The Panchabootham perspective offers a traditional framework for viewing this interconnectedness through Akasha, Vayu, Agni, Neer and Bhoomi, with Jeeva—life—existing within and depending upon their dynamic balance. We explore this traditional understanding alongside contemporary Earth-system science, ecological evidence and our research models, not as a claim of scientific equivalence, but as a framework for asking deeper questions about sustainability. This understanding guides our approach: protect natural systems, use resources responsibly, restore what has been degraded, and strengthen the resilience of people and planet together.

From Philosophy to Evidence
We seek to examine these relationships through evidence, research and practical action—drawing upon ecology, climate and Earth-system science, water and watershed science, biodiversity, human and planetary health, and emerging scientific understanding of biological systems, while also studying traditional Siddha and Tamil knowledge.
Our ongoing Panchabootham Earth System Model (PESM) research explores whether environmental pressures, Earth-system variables and extreme events can be studied through a structured five-domain framework inspired by Panchabootham. Separately, our Three-Śarīra research examines traditional descriptions of the human system alongside relevant areas of contemporary biology and neuroscience. These are research explorations and hypotheses—not claims that modern science has proved traditional philosophy.
